Fat Loss Monitors
Experts say losing important muscles of the body is not at all desirable. Losing a lot of muscle mass means slowing down the body’s metabolism.
But how do we know that our weight loss initiative is not hurting body’s important lean muscles instead of fat? When you’re thinking that you’ve an ideal body weight, it might be the weight of the fat instead of the important body muscles.
And this is not something you should be proud of. Even if we agree to keep a watch on the correct amount of fat that we lose. How to determine if we’re losing only the body fat and not compromising the muscle mass?
Luckily we’ve ways to deal with this type of concern. You’ll find handy fat loss monitor devices to measure that actual fat loss. They come either as a hand held device or with a scale at times.
Using the Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) technology, these devices can help you identify how much fat you’ve lost. An electronic pulse is sent through the hand or the feet to decide how much fat or water is there in the body. After you insert information like your age, height, weight and gender in the device, the machine then calculates the body fat percentage based on the information provided by you and the amount of body fat tissues.
The extra body fat is not always visually noticeable. It’s not always necessary that you’ll be able to locate them from the external appearance of your body. As fat can also accumulate in the inner body organs and blood vessels, this type of device is really useful if you want to know the actual amount of fat present in the body.
Another advantage is that the BIA devices can store information from several users. However, we don’t recommend using this kind of machine for patients with pacemakers.
To get an actual fat loss measurement from the BIA units, it’s important that you keep yourself properly hydrated. If your body is dehydrated, it will not give you an actual measurement. After eating food, you should wait for at least 3 hours and then only take the measurement. To have an accurate idea, you should take repeated measurements under the same type of diet and exercise regimen. That way you’ll be able to track your progress and the amount of fat loss more accurately.
A few types of fat loss monitoring devices also come with caliper forms. With the help of this instrument, you can find out the skin fold thickness of different parts of the body.
The machine can be used for thighs, waists, biceps and other parts of the body. It’s advisable to take the measurement of fat at lower, midsection and the upper part of the body with this instrument.
Electronic calipers can also store information from the different users. The reading on the caliper is used to determine the fat loss. The use of the calipers has been a bit problematic at times.
The problem was basically in identifying where and how much skin folds to measure. The newer calipers are comparatively easier to use and can make calculations on their own.
