Natural Ways to Increase Your Nitric Oxide Levels

Increase Your Nitric Oxide Levels

Nitric Oxide is an essential molecule which is naturally generated in the human body for a different aspect of human health.

Nitric Oxide’s primary function is cardiovascular control as it regulates vasodilation for optimum blood circulation hence maintaining normal blood pressure.

Moreover, Nitric Oxide aids in communication between body cells by transmitting signals. However, sometimes your body may require more Nitric Oxide than it can produce and thus requires replenishment through foods that can boost nitric oxide.

It is also important to note that limited nitric oxide in your bloodstream can lead to cardiovascular diseases, diabetes or erectile dysfunction! Fortunately, the following are natural ways that to increase Nitric Oxide levels in your body.

Increase Your Nitric Oxide Levels

Regular Consumption of Vegetables Rich in Nitrates

Some vegetables such as Spinach, Beetroot, Celery, Lettuce, Arugula, and Cress have high levels of nitrates. Scientific research shows that the nitrates present in vegetables are converted to Nitric Oxide in the body through a metabolic reaction.

The generated nitric oxide aid in relaxing the inner walls of the blood vessels, hence lowering abnormal blood pressure.

This is the reason why doctors recommend consumption of vegetables rich in nitrates as a way of controlling blood pressure.

Vegetables also have Vitamin C which acts as an antioxidant against formation of N-nitroso compounds that can cause cancer.

Increase Consumption of Food that Contains Antioxidants

Nitric Oxide can be easily broken down in the bloodstream because it is an unstable molecule. Therefore, to maintain the level of nitric oxide in the body, stability of the molecule can be boosted by consuming foods that contain antioxidants.

Natural antioxidants present in food helps in limiting the breakdown of nitric oxide.

Natural antioxidants are present in most of the food with plant origins such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, and grains. Essential antioxidants include Vitamins such as vitamin C and E, Polyphenols, and Glutathione.

Polyphenols can be found in Cocoa powder, Berries, Beans, and Nuts. Glutathione, on the other hand, can be acquired from vegetables and fruits such as Spinach and Avocados.

Natural Ways to Increase Your Nitric Oxide Levels

Consumption of Food with High Amino Acids

It has been scientifically proven that amino acids, specifically L-arginine and L-citrulline, aid in boosting the levels of Nitric Oxide in the bloodstream. Arginine is naturally converted into Nitric Oxide in the body therefore increasing the body’s NO levels.

Arginine can be found in most nuts, fruits, meat, and dairy products. On the other hand, L-citrulline is converted to L-arginine, which is in turn converted to Nitric Oxide.

Therefore, L-citrulline boosts the levels of L-arginine, which is responsible for generation of nitric oxide.

Reduce Consumption of High Fat Food

High-fat food temporarily disrupts the process of nitric oxide production in the inner walls of blood vessels such as arteries.

Consumption of high-fat food especially saturated fats, reduces the capability of the endothelium of blood vessels to expand and increase blood flow, hence reduced Nitric Oxide formation.

However, impact of high-fat food can be reduced by walnuts which have both arginine and alpha-linolenic acid that can overcome arterial stiffness.

Regular and Moderate Body Exercise

Performing moderate body exercises. This will make your heart pump with more pressure to meet the oxygen demand by the body muscles. During this process, the linings of the arteries release nitric oxide into the bloodstream.

The released nitric oxide, in turn, relaxes the walls of the blood vessels making them wider to allow more blood to pass through.

Repeated exercise will make your body adjust to higher nitric oxide demands. During such activities, there will be an increase of nitric oxide levels in the blood.
